Thanks for a wonderful season! See you again soon!!
Ray’s, founded in 1988 by Ray and Leslie Simutis, is Seward’s oldest family-owned restaurant. Ray, a former taxi driver and stockbroker from New York, and Leslie, a Seattle native with a background in scientific illustration, met one summer while working at a fishery in Alaska — escaping conventional life achievement expectations, instead opting for adventure immersed in beautiful nature. Ray went on to become a commercial fisherman catching king crab and harrowing stories on the Bering Sea. Leslie honed her culinary skills at home, in cafes, and at the Culinary Institute of America... dreaming of owning a restaurant someday.
With Leslie crafting the menu centered around local seafood and Ray a daily fixture chatting folks up in the bar, Ray’s soon became beloved by locals and visitors alike. Now run by their daughters, Anna and Janina, Ray’s continues to serve fresh, locally sourced seafood with house-made sauces, honoring the Simutis family’s legacy.
